JEFFERSON CITY — Non-immediate family members of abused or neglected children may have an easier time becoming foster parents to those children if a bill moving through the Missouri Senate becomes law.
The Senate Committee on Seniors, Families and Pensions heard testimony on the bill, Senate Bill 47, Tuesday morning. Under current law, the state gives preference to relatives when placing a child in foster care. But relatives in current law means anyone related by blood to the child within three degrees — generally grandparents, aunts and uncles.
