In the year 2000, a lifetime ago in family law terms, the Supreme Court issued an important decision, Troxel v. Granville, in which a majority opined that the State of Washington’s third-party visitation law was unconstitutional as applied to the case before the Court. That's why assuming a kid is at risk is actually hurtful, not helpful.
