What Is Family Reunification?

The planned process of reconnecting
children in out-of-home care with their
families by means of a variety of
services and supports to the children,
their families, and their foster parents
or other caregivers. Family reunification aims to help each child and
family to achieve and maintain, at any
given time, their optimal level of
reconnection—from full reentry into
the family to other forms of contact,
such as visiting, that affirm a child’s
membership in the family (Pine,
Warsh, & Maluccio, 1993, p.6).
