MOM poem… by an aged-out foster kid, me. « I Was A Foster Kid
i need a MOM, i need one that’s mine,
i feel like i am getting close to life’s deadline.
i never had a MOM that wanted me,
i feel like this is my last possible plea.
DOES ANYONE HEAR ME? DON’T YOU SEE?
i’m a lost child, who’s pain needs to be set free.
i ask and i beg, it’s not a joke,
i feel like i am about to croak.
i need a MOM, i need one so bad,
don’t laugh, don’t ridicule, this is really sad.
i need to be wanted and understood,
loved and cared about would be very good.
i need a MOM who is gentle and funny,
sweet and kind and calls me honey.
i need a MOM who can help me learn,
who will be patient and kind and show concern.
i need a MOM who won’t be greedy,
my heart is young and very needy.
i need a MOM who won’t beat me,
who won’t call me names and behave like a raging banshee.
a MOM that won’t burn me or lock me away,
i want a MOM that’s gonna stay.
i need a MOM, can anyone hear,
my heart is bleeding, do i need to be more clear?
i need a MOM, i’m not going to survive,
i’m just hanging on, barely alive.
