Scarborough social worker guilty of abuse

A SCARBOROUGH social worker has been barred from the profession for "serious sexual abuse".
Les Healey, who worked in the town between 2003 and 2008, was found guilty by the General Social Care Council.

Jackie Sulley, panel chairman, said that no other sanction than "removal" was appropriate.

The hearing heard that Healey had sex with a client after settling her debts.

Healey was dismissed from North Yorkshire County Council's Social Services department after the relationship came to light in 2008.

A further investigation revealed he groped two other women in his care.

In each case Healey targeted vulnerable women after he had been taken off their cases.

Concern about Healey was first raised with the county council in 2006, when unproven allegations were made of inappropriate behaviour towards a client in his care.

At a disciplinary hearing in 2007 Healey received a final written warning, as the outcome of the disciplinary process. The General Social Care Council was informed of this action, and began inquiries on its own behalf.
