LETTER: Things getting worse in U.S.

LETTER: Things getting worse in U.S. | GadsdenTimes.com:

Several days, ago a woman in South Carolina was arrested and charged with child abuse. She left her daughter to play in the park while she worked her six-hour shift at McDonald’s. She was charged with a felony. Her daughter was taken away and put in Child Protective Services.

Comment:

Yet Children from Guatemala, Honduras and God only know's where else, have crossed our border, to be reunited with their families, who haven't been charged with ANY abuse. These children are being placed with their relatives, while our children are sent to Foster care. Why aren't our families being treated with the same respect?

Over the years I made countless trips to LA County Children’s Court representing dozens of children and families as my clients.

Parents give up because it is very exhausting and that is exactly what social services wants you to do, but the only option that you have to to keep fighting. Parents that have been falsely accused feel as if they can not win, but you can you need to stay strong for your children and make sure they know that you are fighting for them. Advocates all over can not stress enough to get people to learn everything they can that will help.

Scoppe: Order in the court: sealed records, closed doors

OUR STATE constitution requires that South Carolina’s courts be open to the public, which also means that the work of the courts is supposed be open to the public, but until a little more than a decade ago, state judges routinely sealed settlements in lawsuits, even lawsuits involving state agencies.
