The Lakota People’s Law Project has just issued “Who’s Watching the Watchdog? – A Critique of NPR Ombudsman Edward Schumacher-Matos’ Egregious Errors in Attacking Laura Sullivan and Amy Waters’ Reporting on Native Foster Care”. The report alleges that the former founding editor of Wall Street Journal Americas and now NPR Ombudsman’s 80 page report written over 22 months made six very serious errors which invalidate his findings. The data justify the original airing of the Peabody Award winning report on Native foster care in South Dakota.

I. Why Can't Anyone Stop DCF?
If everyone knows that the Massachusetts Dept. of Children and Families (DCF)is out of control, why can't they be reined in and told to behave? This is one of the dirtiest and least known secrets of how the DCF is able to destroy so many families, and the source of their power: DCF is in control, not the courts. It must be nice to answer to no one, knowing you cannot be punished, cannot be sued, cannot be accountable for the trauma you perpetrate, both on purpose and by mistake.

Instead, her body was found in February 2011 inside a plastic garbage bag on her adoptive father's pickup truck. School authorities had contacted DCF repeatedly about signs of abuse and neglect, only to have their concerns dismissed after being told Nubia was suffering from "medical problems."
