SACRAMENTO, CA - Baby Sammy Nikolayev's parents said their son is on the path to recovery.Sammy headed to Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford on Wednesday. Alex and Anna Nikolayev said their son is gaining weight, and doctors plan to wait as many as six weeks before heart surgery. Sacramento police officers and Child Protective Services took Sammy into protective custody last week after his parents removed their son from Sutter Memorial to get a second opinion. A judge returned custody to the parents Monday, but he had remained at Sutter Hospital until Wednesday.

A Child Protective Services case worker remains hospitalized after she was attacked Tuesday while investigating a report of an abused baby.According to Houston Police, the baby's parents and a friend beat and choked the 23 year old woman until she lost consciousness.
Note: Hopefully after this, there will soon be a shortage of Social Worker's.

We're learning new details about the two men and the woman accused in the case and what went on during that unannounced home visit.
Note: I'm really surprised there aren't more Social Worker's getting beat on. They really know how to push peoples buttons. All in a days work!

This marks the beginning of the committee’s efforts to review—and hopefully reauthorize—a federal program entitled the Adoption Incentives Program. Originally created in 1997 as part of the Adoption and Safe Families Act, theAdoption Incentives Program has delivered a total of $375 million in bonuses to states that were successful in increasing the number of children adopted out of foster care.

Note:Extending maternity leave to 16 weeks is an excellent idea and should be enacted Nationwide. 6 weeks is not enough time to spend and bond with a new baby. More women work outside the home these day's and I believe giving them this extended time off will lead to less Post- partum depression. Years ago, when most women were stay at home mother's, you didn't hear of Post-partum depression. I believe rushing back to work after having a baby is a huge cause of Postpartum depression.
