The fact that it is so predictable makes it no less depressing. In the wake of the Penn State and Syracuse University scandals, New York politicians are falling all over themselves demanding that still more categories of professionals be added to the 43 already required to report any suspicion of child abuse to authorities. ("N.Y. can do more to stop sex abuse," Commentary page, Dec. 9.)

HAMPSTEAD — State officials are considering billing a family for the $15,630 it cost to find 9-year-old Devin Frenette.
Why not bill DCYF? Aren't they the ones who chose his new parents? Aren't they the "Psychic's" who predict the "neglect of a child in the future"? Why not start holding them accountable for their mistakes?
I guess their crystal ball was dirty the day they placed Devon and his sister in theier new home!

Sen. Tom Carper is more than alarmed. As chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management, he's ordered concrete steps from the Obama administration to tackle the problem and legislative recommendations for Congress.
