Foster-adoptive son won't call us mom & dad
We adopted our son from foster care when he was 8 years old. He is now 11 years old. During the 1 1/2 years he was our foster son, we told him it was ok to call us by our first names because we knew he would need time to adjust (he had been in 3 foster homes before our home).
Note:Probably because you're NOT Mom and Dad!

A study concluded that children in foster care suffered four times higher rates of sexual abuse than the general population, which is only exacerbated by foster kids reluctance to report the abuse.
