(member of the House Petitions & Redress Committee)
There is a sad story behind this petition. Ms. Knightly was a single mom who had substance-abuse issues, and her daughter ended up being adopted, under very strange circumstances. She has turned her life around, but I don't think we will have much luck reversing the adoption. This case was one of those which inspired Al Baldasaro's memorable rant during the January 2010 marriage-equality hearings.
She filed a virtually identical petition— Petition #3— in 2010.
Her mother, Dot Knightly has become a well-known grandparents' rights advocate over the years. Dot Knightly's two other grandchildren (Candy's niece and nephew) have also been caught in the family law system's web.

CPS Depression
CPS Depression
You might THINK you have a problem or two as you trudge through life.
But you have never before seen the sort of trouble that comes you way
when the evil, insane, malfeasant, officious sociopathic lying, maledicent,
immoral, unethical communist skanks at the nanny state CPS
sink their poisonous fangs into your family.
"He has erected a Multitude of new Offices, and sent hither Swarms
of Officers to harrass our People, and eat out their Substance."
-Declaration of Independence, 1776

GO James Okeefe!!!
AUGUSTA - Two conservative groups, Americans For Prosperity of Maine and the Maine Heritage Policy Center, presented a video clip they allege exposes "vulnerabilities" in Maine's Department of Health and Human Services.
The video, sent to Carol Weston, state director of AFP, by James O'Keefe, shows an actor portraying a drug smuggler attempting to receive medicaid benefits. According to Weston, he eventually leaves the state office with an application form to fill out to receive MaineCare benefits.
