DSS and Child Protective Services
Part II

DSS has taken their already damaged reputation to the next level. But this time it goes much high then DSS’s carless social workers, lack of intervention, and staled procedures. It has become an organized business that brings in millions a years at the cost of human lives. Before I get into that let me step back to the lower men and women in this organization that are all too willing to follow sick demands and request of their superiors. I want start by informing you on who some of these people are (case / social workers), that are in charge of such fragile lives are.

Take a Moment to Remember All of these Precious Children who Felt Forgotten In Life

Long List of Unqualified Caseworkers
To narrow down a long laundry list of misfit and unfit employees that work for CPS, I will recognize 1 out of our 50 states. Texas, why this state? It honestly was a random pick, maybe because I lived here at one time, but there is no one reason; I could provide a laundry list of names for almost all fifty states.

It was reported that at least 370 of Texas caseworkers have been convicted of felonies. To a few that have earned the acknowledgements:

Cordellia Jones – Drug possession

Richard Landon – Prostitution and Indecent Exposure

Romanus Ike – Indecent Exposure in a public park, including a prior

David Mendonza – (Supervisor) Assault with intent of bodily harm, Violating a restraining order.

Some of the case workers are abusers themselves:

Alvita Johnson, 50, A Nacogdoches, Texas CPS caseworker, was arrested for abusing three

foster children in her care. Charges against Johnson included; injury to a child

and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The children involved were ages

10, 12, and 15 at the time.

Most of the caseworkers have been employed with CPS for over a decade. Also, most were charged for their crime during their employment and are still employed by CPS today.

These People Make the Decisions
There is no reason to continue listing names; all hold serious felonies close to the nature of the ones listed. Please understand that these men and women are in charge of making decisions such as placement of children and the evaluation, as well as approval of foster families. They testify in court, decide who is being abused, who has their children taken, if the abuse is severe enough to remove a child from biological parents or foster care, they decide when to place a child back with the abusive family Quick Note: (Rarely does an incident of child abuse happen in isolation.) and they are the only ones that have direct contact with families and foster care in between court hearing. These are the only people children can rely on to interfere with their abuse.

Are You Really Aware of the Number of Children Dying in CPS Care?
Now don’t get me wrong, I am not saying all convicted felons are repeat offenders, only 70%. Obviously these caseworkers have made repeated mistakes and displayed poor judgment, their record proves this. So how is it that they are give full authority and rule over so many families and fragile children?

Is this why 1,000 children a year die in the care of Child Protective Services?

When I say under the care this means;

· Placed back with their bio. parents, but are still under the care of CPS.

· Placed in foster care or a group home.

· Placed with unfit family members.

I am going to concentrate on foster care, due to there are 6X more children that die in this placement, than any other. When I say under the care of CPS, I mean the caseworkers decision to place a child back or into harm’s way.

Most of these children were taken out of a bad situation by CPS and placed in a worse environment where they were sentences to death. The leading cause of death in these situations are through physical abuse and neglect. To put this issue bluntly and bring the realization of the severity,

In 1 year, 1,000 American Children (almost all healthy upon arriving in CPS care) were either;

· Strangled by hands and belts

· Suffocated by plastic bags and pillows

· Drowned in urine and tub water

· Burned

· Kicked with steal toe boots

· Punched

· Beaton with objects; broom sticks, leather belts, cast iron pans, brass knuckles

· Starved

· Locked in a small closet for weeks

· Dehydration

About Each Story Below and CPS
There are 4 video's below. They take the flashing faces from above and put a story with them. If you are easily disturbed, I would limit the view to only 1 video, if any at all.Although these videos are not visualy graphic, they summarize the short lives of these children and what they had to endure. The abuse was all committed by biological parents or step-parents. It is almost never publisised if a child dies in foster care, expecially if there are no concerned biological parents.

CPS went to baby Peter's House 30x and never took him. Baby Kelsey was still under protection of CPS although living with her mother. Little Sarah's father asked if she could stay with him for a little while, he wouldn't bring her back and CPS saw no reason for her to be removed. Baby Riley, although she had disapered and CPS was called by neighbors, they never responded.

Baby Kelsey's Story.....*Warning* these are True Stories and my be considered to graphic and shocking for some...

Baby Riley's Story........*Warning* this is a True Story and my be considered to graphic and shocking for some...

Their Autopsy's Reveal the Worst
Autopsy’s of some of these children

· Revealed their teeth in their abdomen

· Fractured skulls

· Spine split in two

· Several broken ribs

· 102 prior and current broken bones

· Children with cigarette burns, looking to be used as ash trays.

The reports go on and on to the point a sane mind can barely handle it. Please understand that 1,000 children have been reported. It does not include the other large numbers of children that have turned up missing under the care of Child Protective Services.

More Stats.

· A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds.

· Almost five children die every day as a result of child abuse. More than three out of four are under the age of 4.

It is estimated that between 60-85% of child fatalities due to maltreatment are not recorded as such on death certificates.
90% of child sexual abuse victims know the perpetrator in some way; 68% are abused by family members.
Learn about child abuse. Educate yourself by taking the Myths and Realities About Child Abuse Quiz

So why aren’t any of these social workers penalized for the deaths of these children due to there decision?

How is it that most Americans are unaware of thousands of missing and dying children in CPS care?

Why are laws that are capable of resolving this problem being shot down?

Why are there thousands of capable non-abusive parents having their children taken away and placed in danger?

Britain bans doctor who linked autism to vaccine

By MARIA CHENG, AP Medical Writer – Mon May 24, 12:10 pm ET
LONDON – A doctor who persuaded millions of parents worldwide that a common vaccine could cause autism was barred from practicing medicine in his native Britain on Monday after the country's top medical group found he conducted his research unethically.
Dr. Andrew Wakefield was the first researcher to publish a peer-reviewed study suggesting a connection between autism and the vaccine for measles, mumps and rubella. That prompted legions of parents to abandon the vaccine in moves that epidemiologists feared could lead to outbreaks of the potentially deadly diseases.
Vaccination rates in Britain and other rich countries have not fully recovered since Wakefield and his colleagues' research was published in 1998 and there are measles outbreaks across Europe every year. There are also sporadic outbreaks of the disease in the U.S.
His study in the medical journal Lancet was widely discredited, however, after Britain's medical regulator found it did not meet ethical standards; other studies found no link; and a British journalist revealed Wakefield had been paid by lawyers of parents who suspected their children were harmed by the vaccine.
Wakefield, 53, moved to the U.S. in 2004 and set up an autism center in Texas, where he gained a wide following despite not being licenced as a doctor there, and faced similar skepticism from the medical community. He quit earlier this year.
Britain's General Medical Council was acting Monday on a January ruling that said Wakefield and two other doctors acted unethically and showed a "callous disregard" for the children in their study. The medical body said Wakefield took blood samples from children at his son's birthday party, paying them 5 pounds (today worth $7.20) each and later joked about the incident.
The council, which licenses and oversees doctors, found him guilty of serious professional misconduct and stripped him of his right to practice medicine in the U.K. Wakefield said he plans to appeal the ruling, which takes effect within 28 days. The investigation focused on how Wakefield and colleagues carried out their research, not on the science behind it.
Wakefield said in January that the medical council's investigation was an effort to "discredit and silence" him to "shield the government from exposure on the (measles) vaccine scandal."
Appearing from New York on NBC's "Today Show" on Monday, Wakefield described the British decision as "a little bump on the road." He claimed the U.S. government has been settling cases of vaccine-induced autism since 1991.
Wakefield said the council's ruling against him had been "made from the outset" and vowed to continue his research into the link between vaccines and autism.
"These parents are not going away; the children are not going to go away and I most certainly am not going away," he said.
Numerous studies have been conducted since Wakefield's and none has found a connection between autism and any vaccine.
Two rulings by a special branch of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in March and last year found no link between vaccines and autism. But more than 5,500 claims have been filed by families seeking compensation for children believed to have been hurt by the measles vaccine.
Wakefield has garnered much support from parents suspicious of vaccines, including some Hollywood celebrities. In February, U.S. actress Jenny McCarthy, who has an autistic son, issued a statement with her former partner Jim Carrey.
"It is our most sincere belief that Dr. Wakefield and parents of children with autism around the world are being subjected to a remarkable media campaign engineered by vaccine manufacturers," McCarthy and Carrey said in February. "Dr. Wakefield is being vilified through a well-orchestrated smear campaign."
In Monday's ruling, the medical council said Wakefield abused his position as a doctor and "brought the medical profession into disrepute."
At the time, Wakefield was working as a gastroenterologist at London's Royal Free Hospital and did not have the ethical approval to conduct the study. The study suggested autistic children had a new bowel disease and raised the possibility of a link between autism and vaccines. He had also been paid to advise lawyers representing parents who believed their children had been hurt by the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine.
Ten of the study's authors later renounced its conclusions and it was retracted by the Lancet in February.
At least a dozen British medical associations including the Royal College of Physicians, the Medical Research Council and the Wellcome Trust have issued statements verifying the safety of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine.
This verdict is not about (the measles) vaccine," said Adam Finn, a professor of pediatrics at the University of Bristol Medical School. "We all now know that the vaccine is remarkably safe and enormously effective...we badly need to put this right for the sake of our own children and children worldwide."

Action Points
Explain that ingestion of certain substances -- poppy seeds, for example -- can cause false-positives on drug tests, and some drugs of interest are not included in common test panels.

Note that this study was published as an abstract and presented at a conference. These data and conclusions should be considered to be preliminary until published in a peer-reviewed journal.
NEW ORLEANS -- That poppy seeds can lead to false-positive results on tests for opioid abuse is not just an urban legend, researchers said here.
Amounts as small as a teaspoon -- at least the amount on a poppy seed bagel -- can trigger a positive finding, and can last for two to three days after consumption, according to Dwight Smith, MD, of Boston Medical Center, and colleagues.

The example is one of many suggesting that drug-abuse tests often give inaccurate results, according Smith's presentation here at the American Psychiatric Association's annual meeting.

Another example is that most standard drug tests don't screen for the opioid drug oxycodone, as well as a handful of other opioids including methadone and fentanyl, Smith noted. Physicians must specifically order these assays.

"There are gaps in our understanding of the science behind drug tests, and how that leads to our interpretation of testing results," Smith said. That's one of the reasons he and colleagues conducted a review of the literature on drug tests, their scientific background, and potential clinical concerns.

The latter are particularly important because drug screens are so common, Smith said. Last year, about 150 million drug tests were conducted in the United States.

"We drug test everyone in the states nowadays -- our students, our athletes," he said. "It's a condition for employment in many federal and private agencies."

Still, many physicians may not be aware that ordering a general "drug test" won't cover all their bases, or that half of patients who are abusing substances will be missed.

One study in the review found 88% of physicians were unaware of the need to request the specific oxycodone assay, and half did not know about the false-positives associated with poppy seeds.

Opioid tests screen for morphine and codeine, which are two of the most common metabolites of many -- but not all -- opioids. They're not metabolites of oxycodone, methadone, fentanyl, tramadol (Ultram), and buprenorphine (Subutex, Suboxone), Smith said.

"You need to order the specific assays in order to accurately interpret those," he added.

Similarly, only certain metabolites of benzodiazepines are detected on most assays. That means diazepam, nordiazepam, and oxazepam (Serax) will be detected, but alprazolam (Xanax), lorazepam (Ativan), and clonazepam (Klonopin) aren't frequently screened.

Part of the problem is that there are no federal guidelines for minimum negative threshold levels for a positive test, Smith said. Plus, each laboratory has its own guidelines and procedures for dealing with test sensitivity and specificity.

In their review, the researchers found that drug tests generally have a sensitivity of 90% to 95%, and a specificity of 85% to 90%. These numbers are a "pretty good basis" for making clinical decisions, Smith said, but that means "one in 20 [tested patients] are going to have inaccurate results, and those are more likely to be false positive than false negative."

By comparison, confirmatory tests such as gas-chromatography mass-spectrometry have a sensitivity of 99% and a similar specificity, but they are more expensive.

Physicians "trust in science, and we believe [sensitivity and specificity] are going to be higher than that when they're not," he said. "We really need to get tests confirmed."

Many substances aside from poppy seeds cause these false-positives. Cold medications can give a positive read on amphetamines, as can bupropion (Wellbutrin) and tricyclic antidepressants.

Sertraline (Zoloft) and oxaprozin (Daypro) can alert physicians to a benzodiazepine problem when there is none.

The HIV medication efavirenz (Sustiva) can come up as a positive for marijuana use, and dextromethorphan, rifampin, and quinolones could show as an opioid problem.

"If a patient does test positive, you need to take a careful medical history," Smith said.

Smith also did some myth-busting, finding that there's no possibility of a false positive resulting from passive inhalation of marijuana or cocaine -- unless they are exposed to an excessively concentrated amount of smoke.

"If a patient comes in and blames it on any of these scenarios, you can say, 'Unless you were in the van with Cheech and Chong, that's not what happened,'" Smith said.

As far as false-negatives go, Smith said physicians should be wary of the methods for diluting samples used in drug tests -- an issue he calls "the elephant in the room."

On average, such strategies appear to work 50% of the time. These include bleaching urine or adding the household cleaner Drano or the eye lubricant Visine to it.

Others have gone to great lengths to design battery-powered devices that keep urine warm, and offer a prosthetic device "in three or four skin tones" for the most cunning of drug test cheaters, Smith said.

A fail-safe would be to screen the urine for its standard specific gravity of <1.003, or standard creatinine under 20 mg/dL.

Yet no studies have been done to show exactly how prevalent drug test cheating is, Smith said, adding that the area urgently needs research.

His advice to physicians who want to know the quality and the specifics of the drug test reports they receive: "Become friends with the toxicologist in charge of the lab. It's particularly helpful if the results of the test are unexpected."

The review was based on studies found via a PubMed search between Jan. 1, 1980 and Sept. 1, 2009.

Ronald Bugaoan, MD, medical director of High Point Treatment Center in Brockton, Mass., who assisted in the study, said urine tests do indeed have the longest window of detection for most substances.

However, gas-chromatography mass-spectrometry is the "gold standard" for drug testing, and added that patients enrolled in the Massachusetts health plan can get tests using it for only $12 apiece.

The researchers reported no conflicts of interest.

[ Rich Murray comments: Woody Monte sent me the URLs to these wonderful
reviews on Christmas Eve -- a wonderful present for this medical layman,
who has similarly reviewed many areas of mainstream medical research
since January, 1999 as a volunteer information activist on the Net for
quality, civil, balanced, detailed research on aspartame toxicity and
related issues.

His opus makes the essential, central point that aspartame toxicity
research intimately involves methanol, formaldehyde, and formic acid, as
well as co-factors like alcohol and folic acid that can mitigate the
toxicity of methanol.

Striking evidence is given to support bold claims that methanol is a
major cause of fetal alcohol syndrome, autism, multiple sclerosis,
lupus, teen suicide, and breast cancer.

It is easy to suggest: obesity, diabetes, depression, seizures,
Alzheimer's, fibromyalgia, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, infertility,
impaired pregnancies, birth defects, ADHD, accidents, and violent crimes.

Indeed, we have here "Right To Life" issues comparable to the millions
of deaths worldwide from war, murder, suicide, modern urban diet,
vehicle accidents, air and water pollution, tobacco, alcohol, sugar,
salt, toxic metals, fluoride, and a variety of illegal addictive drugs, including heroin, cocaine, and meth. There is much to be done, and quickly.

Despite the urgency and huge scale of these problems, the toxicity of
methanol and its products in humans is a remarkably undeveloped field of
research and therapeutic practice.

So far, most evidence is available mainly from alcohol hangover studies,
and it may still be true that these teams are largely unaware that
aspartame is an ubiquitous, potent methanol source that impinges all
medical research and practice.

Woodrow C. Monte has set a powerful precedent for effective, efficient
scientific communication in today's Internet age, by putting full texts
of over 190 references on the Net at no cost, expediting the process of
assessing his interpretations and quickly developing a working paradigm
among competent researchers, not controlled by various vested interests,
for the necessary immediate next steps in focused research, as well as
raising an urgently needed warning alert that reaches all levels of world society.

Following the lead of all the major supermarket chains in the United Kingdom, producers, distributors, advertisers, media, medicine, education, service organizaions, governments at all levels, and corporate users should act immediately to protect the public, including their own staff and clients.

I welcome civil comments, feedback, and papers, based on reason and
evidence, to aspartameNM@yahoogroups.com, while of course the increasing
network of concerned, competent citizens will doubtless form many such
networks of frank, rapid collaboration, both privately and publicly.

In recent years, without editing the text, I change the format to single lines with single spaces, in order to improve the readability of dense scientific prose, as with electronic media there is no need to conserve paper costs. Changing the format to plain text allows texts to be easily searched and combined on any computer in the world. ]

Listener:

While applauding the caution suggested by the Listener article on the
dangers of Aspartame, I am disappointed that it did not more fully
explain the biochemical processes by which Aspartame causes harm.

The dangerous “poison” produced by consumption of this sweetener is wood
alcohol (methanol)(1).

Methanol is a poison that cannot legally be added to food in any
civilized country in the world.

All of John’s and Abby Cormack’s symptoms were the classic symptoms of
chronic methanol poisoning...all.(12,13)

Unlike the species of lab animals employed in most studies of Aspartame
safety, humans lack enzymes which prevent methanol from metabolizing
into formaldehyde.

Consequently, when consumed by human beings, methanol enters the body’s
cells and is converted to formaldehyde (7).

This extremely dangerous chemical has been relegated to the highest
level of cancer causing agent, Group I, by the IARC the International
Agency for Research on Cancer. Lyon. France.(11)

The NZFSA is seriously challenged by the methanol issue.

Using the industry’s standard response, they indicate that some methanol
is consumed as a part of our normal diets so what harm a little more?(19)

They also cite unusually high levels of methanol in black currant and
tomato juice to support the premise that methanol is not an uncommon
component in our diets (1).

However, when asked about the amount of methanol consumed in the typical
Kiwi diet, sans Aspartame, they offer no reply.

In the absence of unbiased baseline data on consumption, how can the
NZFPA reach an informed decision or propose reasoned policy?

The rate of consumption of a poison in a large population cannot be
increased without consequence.

The toxicological concept of LD01 refers to the amount of a poison that,
when fed acutely to a population, will kill on average, one percent of
that population.

The level that causes symptoms is always much lower than the LD01.

Is the NZFPA aware that the LD01 is not known for methanol in humans nor
can it be extrapolated from animal testing since there are no animals
that are as sensitive to methanol as humans?

Aspartame is not safe enough to mandate its consumption in Schools.

Abby Cormack is a young lady from Wellington who recently made headlines
because of serious adverse reactions her physician attributed to her use
of the artificial sweetener aspartame.

She sent me an email to ask for help.

I was happy to assist since I have seen hundreds of similar complaints (1).

Aspartame contains methanol(14, 48, 5). [ 50?]

Methanol is a dangerous poison that, over time, is known to remove the
insulation from nerve axons(18, 53), producing symptoms identical to
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)(2).

In fact, in the German scientific literature, Swiss physician, Dr Hugo
Henzi, argued eloquently, that naturally occurring methanol was the
cause of Multiple Sclerosis(5, 6, 8, 9, 10).

[ Med Hypotheses. 1984 Jan; 13(1): 63-75.
Chronic methanol poisoning with the clinical and pathologic-anatomical
features of multiple sclerosis.
Henzi H.

The details of two cases of chronic methanol poisoning are presented.

Both patients initially developed clinical symptoms of multiple
sclerosis: visual disturbances, intention tremor, reduced abdominal
reflexes, impaired coordination and difficulties with walking.

After the exposure to methanol had ceased the multiple sclerosis
symptoms persisted in patient 1 but disappeared gradually in patient 2
(patient 2 had a history of excessive alcohol consumption, which is a
critical fact in this discussion).

Ultimately autopsies confirmed this picture: histological examination of
patient 1 revealed plaques in the spinal cord, in the stem and in the
proximity of the lower horn of one lateral ventricle, whereas no
localized demyelination could be found in patient 2.

The results are discussed in connection with the theory ("Methanol
Hypothesis") that under certain circumstances multiple sclerosis itself
is induced by formaldehyde stemming from the metabolism of methanol.
PMID: 6708848 ]

My name is Dr. Woodrow Monte.

My 26 year career as Professor at Arizona State University was devoted
to research and teaching of the composition and safety of foods.

For 25 years I have had serious concerns about the consequences of the
consumption of Aspartame.

In 1983, I filed the first petition to the US Food and Drug
Administration seeking Aspartame’s removal from foods(39).

My 287 page petition, containing copious documentation of published
research, was denied without explanation.

In 1984, I wrote the first scientific article warning of the methanol
produced when Aspartame is consumed(1).

This issue of aspartame safety is embedded in a quagmire of politics(39).

Aspartame’s approval by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
was championed, by the former US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

At the time of Aspartame’s FDA approval, he was president of the company
that invented it and which stood to make considerable financial gain
from its manufacture and sales(39, 56).

NZFAS Public Relations for the Beverage Industry The New Zealand Food
Safety Authority (NZFSA) has endorsed Aspartame safety in all of their
handouts, for the most part paraphrasing the claims of the sweetener
industry(39, 56).

The New Zealand government currently is considering a measure which
endorses diet sweeteners as replacement for sugar sweetened beverages in
schools.

Inexpensively produced aspartame from China is the product most likely
to be selected to replace sugar.

Fizzy drink beverage manufacturers stand to reap a substantial profit
from the money saved substituting aspartame for sugar.

But at what cost to the public health?

Despite vigorous protest, the NZFSA has maintained a pro-aspartame stance.

They have chosen not to allocate resources for study of the many
hundreds of scientific works that comprise just the methanol toxicity
literature.

I have studied this scientific literature and, in the remainder of this
article, will present to you what I have learned, and why I believe, it
is so important to reject this proposed measure.

The Science: Aspartame tastes sweet because, attached to it, is a
molecule of methanol (wood alcohol).

The methanol is very loosely bound and will fly off with the slightest
heating or when consumed(20, 51).

Because methanol’s toxicity is well known, millions of dollars were
invested by Aspartame’s inventors in an attempt to attach some other
“safer” substance, but this attempt was not successful.

With the approval of Aspartame, a new source of methanol was added to
what is a very short list of methanol containing foods.

Methanol -- Trojan Horse: Why is methanol dangerous?

Inside cells, methanol is converted to formaldehyde(30), an undetectable
toxin and recognized cancer causing agent of the highest order (Group
I)(11).

Even when formaldehyde is injected directly into a living human, it
turns into formal hydrate(4, 27), a very aggressive molecule that
instantly attaches to any protein molecule which it makes contact.

The formaldehyde molecule then completely disappears within the cover of
the much larger protein(31, 32).

No diagnostic procedures, can detect a protein molecule so changed, yet
the damaged molecule, loses function.

Damaged protein molecules are not tolerated by the immune system.

Specific detection sites for “formaldehyde modified protein” are found
on white blood cells called macrophages(23, 24).

Macrophages seek out and destroy these proteins at a rate 100 times
faster than proteins not treated with formaldehyde(25).

Upon autopsy, macrophages are found in the damaged areas of the brains
of those who have died with MS(42, 44).

Pharmaceutical companies use formaldehyde treatment of viral proteins to
greatly enhance antibody production during the manufacture of vaccines(26).

However, the effect of formaldehyde (resulting from methanol poisoning)
on human proteins, has not been examined as a cause of autoimmunity.

A Question Never Answered: In response to these concerns, spokespersons
for the soft drink beverage industry and for NZFSA claim that there is a
large amount of methanol consumed in the normal diet and that a “little”
more from aspartame will do no harm.

This is their only justification for allowing more of this toxin to be
introduced into foods.

No estimate has been publicly presented by these spokespersons regarding
the amount of methanol consumed per person, per day in the average diet.

Consistent with the data in my published research(1), I believe that the
amount of methanol in the typical diet without artificial sweeteners
would be less than 8 milligrams per day.

One can of aspartame sweetened diet cola yields 16 milligrams of
methanol(47), more than twice the amount of methanol from other sources
in a typical diet.

Fresh fruits and vegetables contain small traces of methanol(28, 29) but
their consumption is not problematic, in that, during fermentation in
the gut, they produce a natural substance that stops the conversion of
methanol to formaldehyde(35, 36).

In fact, before Aspartame, methanol in the normal human diet came
primarily from heat processed plant foods such as canned fruit and
vegetables and their juices(33).

Report Finds Women Who Refuse Abortions Often Face Violent Attacks, Death

unhappygrammy-And what about the women who refuse to be coerced into abortion by health clinics only to then have their newborn child stolen by DCYF/CPS?

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Women who refuse requests from their husbands or boyfriends to have abortions are often finding themselves subject to violent attacks that sometimes result in their deaths. That's the finding of a new report from the Elliot Institute, which calls the problem a "widespread epidemic."

The new report, Forced Abortion in America, is drawing attention to attacks on pregnant women and girls in order to prevent them from continuing their pregnancies.

It points out a "widespread epidemic of unwanted, coerced and forced abortions taking place in the United States."

The report notes how research suggests most abortions are likely unwanted or coerced, with one survey of women who had abortions finding that 64 percent said they felt pressured by others to abort.

The same survey found 80 percent of women said they did not receive the counseling they needed to make a decision -- even though more than half said they felt rushed or uncertain about the abortion.

The consequences for those who refuse abortion can be dangerous and even deadly, according to the report, which details cases of women and girls facing violent attacks or murder for resisting abortion.

Studies of death rates among pregnant women in the U.S. have found that homicide is the leading cause of death among pregnant women, the authors say.

The cases detailed in the report represent only a fraction of the more than 200 cases the Elliot Institute has on file of women and girls being attacked or killed with the intent of getting rid of the pregnancy. The updated report contains new cases as well as a new special section on teens and forced abortion.

Among the new cases added to the report:

* A Kansas man and his wife were convicted of sexual abuse after the man raped his stepdaughters over a several year period, resulting in four pregnancies and at least one abortion, performed on an 11-year-old. The case was reported to authorities by a pro-life organization after one of the girls visited their office seeking an abortion; the group says that the abortion business did the abortion without informing authorities of any suspected abuse.

* Two Ohio teenagers were convicted for kidnapping and assaulting a pregnant teen, killing her unborn child. Police said one of the boys thought he had fathered the child, and the two hit the teen and kicked her the abdomen to cause the death of her 8-month-old unborn child. One of them allegedly told her that she should have gotten an abortion, and that "now your baby is going to die." DNA tests showed the teen was not the father.

* A man was sentenced to 9 years in prison for secretly giving his wife an abortion-inducing drug after she refused to abort. The woman secretly taped him admitting to giving her the drug but trying to convince her that she really wanted to have an abortion.

* A high school junior was beaten to death by her 22-year-old boyfriend after she refused to have an abortion. According to police, the man hit the teen at least four times on the head with a bat and admitted he did not want her to have the baby. He pleaded guilty after leading police to the girl's body, which he had buried under leaves in the woods. The man was sentenced to 22 years to life in prison.

"Our files contain hundreds of stories from women and girls who were attacked or killed with the intent of getting rid of the pregnancy," said Elliot Institute spokesperson Amy Sobie.

She told LifeNews.com, "We've been collecting these stories for more than six years through mainstream media sources and pro-life organizations who have been diligently reporting on these kinds of cases. The information is out there, but many people aren't aware of what might be going on in their own communities."

Sobie said people might not immediately connect this with abortion because in many cases the woman or girl never makes it to an abortion center -- she's attacked or killed before she even gets there.

"In our opinion, the availability of abortion makes it easier for those around her to think that she shouldn't be having this baby, and gives those with an interest in getting rid of the unborn child a justification for doing so," she said.

Some of the new cases included in the report involve assailants using abortifacients or other drugs to secretly induce an abortion. For example, in several cases the attackers secretly put the RU-486 abortion drug in their wives' or girlfriends' food or drink with the intent of killing the unborn child.

In addition to destroying the life of the unborn child and subjecting the mother to the emotional trauma of the loss of her child, these attacks may also put the mother at risk of physical problems without her being aware of it. Side effects of RU-486 include hemorrhaging, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, painful cramping, heart problems, infections and death of the mother.

And the availability of the drug may make it easier for those who want to cause an abortion to do so without the need to use pressure, intimidation or force to get the mother to an abortion business -- putting more women and girls at risk.

Other new cases focus on pregnancy discrimination by employers, schools and others that can make women feel they have no choice but to abort.

For example, a study published in the Journal of Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics found that student athletes conceal pregnancy, feel forced into abortion or fear losing financial aid because of pregnancy, which could jeopardize their ability to stay in school.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission recently settled cases with two large U.S. companies for refusing to hire a pregnant applicant and firing an employee who became pregnant.

"Pressure may also come from bosses, school counselors and others who see a pregnancy as a threat to the woman's ability to do her job or continue her education," Sobie said. "The EEOC has reported an increase in the number of pregnancy discrimination complaints filed against employees, and a number of large companies have settled or are facing lawsuits over claims they fired or demoted female workers who became pregnant."

Elliot Institute director Dr. David Reardon said that cases of women being pressured, threatened, or subjected to violence if they refuse to abort are not unusual. He pointed out that studies have shown that homicide is the leading killer of pregnant women in the U.S. and that women in abusive relationships are at risk for increased violence during pregnancy.

"In many of the cases documented for this report, police and witnesses reported that acts of violence and murder took place after the woman refused to abort or because the attacker didn't want the pregnancy," he said. "Even if a woman isn't physically threatened, she often faces intense pressure, abandonment, lack of support, or emotional blackmail if she doesn't abort. While abortion is often described as a 'choice,' women who've been there tell a very different story."

Reardon said the report underscores the need for legislation, like that recently passed in Nebraska, holding abortion businesses liable for failing to screen women for evidence of coercion or pressure to abort and to direct them to people and resources that can help them.

"Too often, abortion clinics and others simply assume that if a woman is coming for an abortion, it is her free choice," he said. "This 'no questions asked' policy is especially harmful to those in abusive situations, including young girls who are victims of sexual predators. Women should not be forced into unwanted abortions and subjected to violence or pressure from others."
